The Smart World of Smart Sensors
Rob Conant, Co-founder and Vice President, Marketing & Business Development
Vice President of Marketing & Business Development and co-founder Rob Conant heads up Dust Networks business development and marketing efforts. In his previous role at telecommunications systems provider Onix Microsystems, Rob invented the micromirror technology that established the company as a leader in MEMS-based fiber optic switches. In addition to designing the underlying technology, Rob built a team to ensure the Onix switches led the market in both performance and applicability. As an early-stage employee at Pinnacle Technologies, Rob built the engineering team and directed business development for the company's fast-growing distributed sensor application services. In 1993, R&D Magazine recognized Rob and his colleagues at Pinnacle with its prestigious R&D 100 award for technology innovation. Rob holds a PhD and MS in electrical engineering from UC Berkeley and a BS in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley. When he's not charting the course for Dust Networks, Rob can be found captaining his sailboat on the San Francisco Bay.
About Dust Networks
Dust Networks. provides wireless mesh networking systems to solution providers, integrators and OEMs for enterprise-class monitoring and control applications. Dust Networks' SmartMesh. Networks combine sophisticated mesh networking software and low-power wireless nodes to provide unmatched reliability, manageability and ease of installation.
Located in Hayward, California, Dust Networks is a privately held venture-funded company focused on providing market-leading wireless sensor network products to industrial and commercial markets. Dust Networks was founded in 2002 by a team including Kris Pister, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and the originator of the Smart Dust concept. Since then, the company has developed a unique patent-pending networking system that addresses the needs of a broad range of customers who need an enterprise-class, wireless mesh networking system for sensing and control applications.
Dust Networks' premier product the SmartMesh networking system lowers the barrier to deploying sensing and control solutions, and provides unprecedented access to information about the physical world; information that will be used to increase occupant comfort in buildings, to reduce energy consumption, to reduce machine downtime in factories, and to allow companies to monitor and control processes and systems for increased efficiency and enhanced profitability.
