About the Speakers
Roger Akers
Roger Akers is the Co-founder of Akers Capital LLC, with offices in Fair Oaks, CA and Boise, Idaho. After successfully raising Pac West Technology Fund I in 2000, Roger and the team have invested in, mentored and helped build emerging technology companies. Akers Capital and Roger have invested in several startups including CustomerLink Systems, OnePipeline, Telemetric and ipInfusion. Roger spent 20 years experience in the information technology industry in various capacities before he became an investor in the mid 90s. He holds an undergraduate degree in accounting and a masters in business administration.
He is very active amongst the local technology community and sits on several boards including SARTA, Golden State Capital Network and TechCoire. He also serves as treasurer of the Sacramento Angels and is a managing director of the non-profit VETO organization, helping the disadvantaged community through the use of advanced technology.
John Kunhart
John Kunhart has over 23 years of experience in management, marketing, strategic planning, consulting, software development and IT project management. Before founding American River Ventures (ARV), John Kunhart was an active seed stage investor. As an entrepreneur, John was the co-founder and Sales & Marketing Vice President of Professional Solutions, Inc. (PSI), a multimillion dollar IT consulting and staffing company. He was responsible for the sale of PSI to Arcus and later to Iron Mountain, where he served as director of National Sales. Before founding PSI, John held technical and marketing positions with IBM, Tandem, and Boeing Computer Services. John represents American River Ventures on the Boards of intelliDOT , Clairvoyante and SpectraSensors. John holds a BS in Computer Science from Seattle Pacific University
Scott Lenet
Scott Lenet is a founder and Managing Director of DFJ Frontier, a Draper Fisher Jurvetson affiliate and early stage technology venture capital fund focused on investments in the central valley and central coast of California. At Frontier, he leads fund management, fundraising and portfolio management efforts. Mr. Lenet has significant experience in the technology industry as an entrepreneur and as a venture capitalist. He was the founder and CEO of SmartFrog.com, purchased in 1999 by Cybergold (acquired by UAL). In 1992 Mr. Lenet was the first associate at Geocapital Partners, an equity capital investment firm affiliated with Broadview where he had responsibilities for fundraising, deal sourcing, and due diligence for successful investments including Netcom (acquired by ELNK) and Logic Works (acquired by CA). Mr. Lenet's enterprise software experience also includes a product marketing role at Trilogy Software. He received his MBA in Entrepreneurial Management from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an AB in Comparative Literature from Princeton University.

Dan Kennedy is the Publisher of The Sacramento Business Journal since May 1985 and anchors the Daily Business News Reports on KXJZ Public Radio during "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered". He is also an adjunct Professor for the Graduate School of Management, UC Davis, since 1986, teaching management communications to MBA students. Dan sits on the board of director of Sacramento Make-A-Wish foundation and serves on the Dean's advisory council for the Graduate School of management, UC Davis.
