About the Speakers
John Hummel, Sr. Vice President & CIO of Sutter Health
Currently Mr. John Hummel is the Sr. Vice President of Information Services and CIO for Sutter Health. Sutter Health is one of the largest IDN's in the United States. Located in Northern California and Hawaii, Sutter Health has over 35,000 employee's , 30 hospitals as well as clinics, foundations and other health care facilities.
John has over 25 years in Information Services and HealthCare with extensive National and International experiences in these areas. International experiences include India, China, Japan, Korea, Egypt, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Columbia, Argentina and the Middle East.
John is also active in Microsoft's Healthcare Users Group as a board of directors since 1996 and president in 2000-02. John is also active in CHIME and HIMSS.
Prior to Sutter Health, Mr. Hummel was a CIO for a International Esoteric Genetic Reference Lab and for a National For profit Hospital Chain. John has also several years experience as a International Bio-Medical Engineer for Lithotripsy and Laparoscopic Devices.
In the Navy, John was a Nuclear Engineer specializing in Submarine Reactors as well as advanced Electronic Warfare Systems. John has a B.S. and is in the process of completing his Masters in Healthcare Administration.
Eric Wilson, CIO of Raleys
In his position as Chief Information Officer, Eric provides Technology vision and leadership for Raley's. He oversees, directs and executes the overall Enterprise Technology strategy, operations and staff administration for the Raley's
Eric brings to the company more than 25 of years of global IT operations experience. Before joining Raley's, He was most recently Senior Vice President Operations & Chief Technology Officer at Fusionstorm, a technology services company. Prior to that, he served as Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer at Philip Services Corporation a multi-national industrial services, laboratory and engineering Services Company with over $3 billion in annual revenues. Eric also held several IT management positions at Dofasco, an integrated materials manufacturer with over $2.7 Billion in annual sales. There he served as General Manager, Information Technology Services at Dofasco, Inc.
Eric is also currently an advisory board member of SBC Communications, Inc. and Perry Johnson Registrars, and serves on the boards of several technology companies.
Eric graduated with honors from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. He holds an honors bachelor's degree in computer science and business administration.
Matt Pease, Vice President, Microsoft Corporation
Matt is responsible for the sale of Microsoft products and services to small and medium sized business customers in the western United States. In addition, he is responsible for fostering relationships with Microsoft selling partners in the region. This operation has approximately 80 employees in offices throughout the western United States.
Matt joined Microsoft as the General Manager for the Northern California District in June of 1999.
Prior joining Microsoft, Matt had been with Sequent Computer Systems as the Region Vice President for the western United States. He began as a district manager in San Francisco in 1992, and was promoted to region vice president in February 1997. Before his career at Sequent Computer Systems, Matt spent 11 years at AT&T engaged in numerous sales, sales management, and staff positions. He was also with Burroughs, now Unisys, for 2 and half years.
Matt attended San Francisco State University where he graduated Cum Laude in 1979 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in business administration.
He lives in Walnut Creek, California, with his wife and three children. Matt is a member of the Faculty Advisory Board for the School of Business at San Francisco State University and California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo.
Panel Moderated by Corley Phillips, American River Ventures
Corley Phillips is a General Partner with American River Ventures, an investor in early stage information technology companies. Mr. Phillips has been active in a number of angel investing groups, including the Sierra Angels and the Sacramento Angels and has been an active seed-stage investor in Northern California and Northern Nevada.
Prior to his activities as an angel investor, Mr. Phillips had a distinguished entrepreneurial career. From 1990 until its successful merger with State of the Art (NASDAQ: SOTA) at the end of 1994, he served as President and CEO of Manzanita Software Systems, an accounting software company based in Roseville, CA. From 1984 to 1990, he was President and co-founder of Grafpoint, a communications software company based in San Jose, California, which merged with White Pine Software (NASDAQ: WPNE). He previously held various sales and marketing positions with Envision Technology and Hewlett-Packard.
Mr. Phillips holds a BSEE and MSEE from Washington University, St. Louis, and an MBA from Santa Clara University. He sits on the boards of ReShape and Senforce Technologies.
