Tom Owen, VP of Wireless Business Development, DeCarta
With over 15 years wireless experience among mobile operators in North America, Tom has a long record of success in business development, strategic partner management, as well as developing innovative alliances on a national and global basis. Prior to joining deCarta, Tom was Senior Director of Business Development at Helio, an SK Telecom/EarthLink MVNO joint venture. As part of the initial launch team, he managed the relationships with network providers Sprint and Verizon, and helped develop and implement Helio’s LBS strategy. Prior to Helio, Tom served as VP of the Carrier Development Group at @Road where he was responsible for mobile strategy and implementation. Tom has also held senior strategic business development positions with various start-ups including Neomar, ProxiNet and WebLogic.
Paul Obsitnik, VP of Marketing/BD, Venturi Wireless
Paul Obsitnik has responsibility for all marketing initiatives at Venturi Wireless. While engaged in the Communications sector over the past 15 years, Paul has established a strong track record in successfully developing and growing new markets and product/technology initiatives. Prior to joining Venturi, Paul served as Vice President, Marketing & Business Development at TeleCommunication Systems responsible for developing and marketing the company’s wireless messaging and location solutions. Prior to TCS, Paul held roles in Sales & Marketing with ONI Systems, NorthPoint Communications & 3Com. Before 3Com, Paul served in several engineering management roles as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. Paul holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy as well as a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Eric Law, Ph.D., VP Business Development, Boncle, Inc.
Besides his business development role, Eric defines the blueprint for the Boncle secure transaction platform, an enabling infrastructure for the assurance of secure messages and transactions and for developers and web sites to innovate new business models.
Before joining Boncle in 2005, Eric served management and technology positions for a number of international companies including PCCW, Microsoft and Unisys. In PCCW, he managed the advanced security group to deliver the government multi-purpose smart ID card project for all Hong Kong citizens and residents. The complex smart card project involved international collaboration covering multiple disciplines in biometrics, data security, workflow and imaging. In Microsoft, he led the advanced technology division and the Internet customer unit for Hong Kong and the Greater China region. In Unisys, he managed the regional first contactless smart card payment system (now commonly known as “Octopus”) and defined the telecom and security infrastructure for the early stage of the project.
David Fradin, President of Adcell Media
David Fradin is the founder and president of AdCell Media, the first company to develop and deliver advertising enabled games and applications to cell phones. After asuccessfulcareer at Hewlett-Packard (Office Systems product management), Apple (Apple /// Business Unit Manager) and Dataquest (Associate Director of PC Industry Service), Mr. Fradin has been a serial entrepreneurpioneering such fields as digital video (Avid), web-based sales and software training and most recently cell phone advertising. He has brought to market 70+ products representing over $250 Million in revenue including the first hard disk drive on a personal computer, the first desktop and digital video editing system and the first use of streaming audio and video for training on the internet.
Scott Hervey, Partner, Weintraub Genshlea Chediak, Moderator
Scott Hervery’s practice focuses on Intellectual Property matters, issues concerning the Internet, licensing and entertainment law. Scott’s Intellectual Property practice involves the representation of companies primarily in the areas of trademarks, copyrights and licensing. He regularly practices before the United States Patent and Trademark Office on trademark registrations, opposition and cancellation proceedings. Scott also handles trademark and copyright infringement matters, including Internet based trademark disputes. Scott’s entertainment practice focuses primarily on the music and independent film industries. He has represented talent, producers, managers, production companies and independent record labels in a variety of transactions.
