About the Speaker

Laurence Albukerk
Managing
Director and Founder EB Exchange Funds
Mr. Albukerk is an expert in the capital structure of
VC-backed businesses. His deep understanding is the
result of owning positions in over 100 companies. Mr.
Albukerk has experience as a founder, investor,
executive, and board member. He has also been an active
proponent of donating private stock to charities.
In 1993, Mr. Albukerk started his first
venture-backed company, Visible Interactive, a producer
of handheld multimedia tours, which became its
industry's leader. Since leaving Visible in 1997, Mr.
Albukerk founded two other venture-backed companies,
Basement.com and Telio Innovations and served on the
Board of Directors of Concept Kitchen, until its sale to
Fellowes. Since 1999 he has spent the majority of his
time managing EB Exchange Funds, which provides
diversification and liquidity to entrepreneurs while
their companies are still private. Mr. Albukerk is the
inventor and/or owner of several U.S. patents, many of
which have been licensed or sold. He is also a frequent
lecturer and panelist on the topic of capital structure
and startup financing.
Mr. Albukerk earned an MBA from The University of
Chicago Booth School of Business in 1992 and a BSBA from
Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri in 1989 and
resides in San Francisco with his wife and two
daughters.
