It’s official: We’re in recession. Store closures, job losses are nothing new during a recession, but it has also been a time when great companies like Cisco and Sun Microsystems have been formed.  History has many examples of successful companies being built during recessionary periods. The question on every startup’s mind is how 2009 is going to shape and if the VCs will continue to fund technology companies.  We’ve assembled a team of investors who will discuss issues including :

  1. Are they still funding early stage/Series-A? What's the real scoop?
  2. What about follow-on rounds? What has changed?
  3. How has their funding criteria changed in today's market?
  4. Where are the VCs advising their companies to cut back?
  5. What kind of deals are they looking for now?
  6. How do they expect  2009 to shape out?
  7. What are the “hot segments” or “hot applications” that are attracting their attention?
  8. How will the job/talent market evolve?
  9. Impact of India/China & more

Limited number of non-member guests are allowed at this event. Register below to reserve your spot as a guest or become a 2009 member and guarantee your spot at this event.

Andrew Hargadon, Associate Professor of Management, UC Davis
Hargadon is an expert in technology management, management of innovation, entrepreneurship and new product development. His research is focused on the point at which technology and innovation meet and the interplay between product development and marketing. He looks at the sources of new ideas and the notion of “knowledge brokering.” His recent book, How Breakthroughs Happen: The Surprising Truth About How Companies Innovate (Harvard Business School Press, 2003) describes how engineers and entrepreneurs pull together old ideas and ways of thinking from different areas and “cross-train” them to create revolutions in other industries and fields. A former design engineer for IDEO Product Development and Apple Computer, Associate Professor Hargadon also studies how entrepreneurs and designers must overcome the fact that people adopting innovations rely on familiar understandings and ideas to make sense of new technologies. His research offers insights into how an innovation’s design shapes its acceptance and ultimate impact.
